Description
A warm and comforting pasta dish perfect for a fall evening.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound pasta
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain, reserving about 1/2 cup of pasta water.
- While pasta is cooking, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sausage and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Remove sausage with a slotted spoon and set aside.
- Add onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and cook for 10 minutes.
- Return sausage to the skillet. Stir in heavy cream and Parmesan cheese. Cook until heated through.
- Add cooked pasta to the sauce. Toss to coat. If sauce is too thick, add a little reserved pasta water until desired consistency is reached.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- For a spicier dish, add red pepper flakes to the sauce.
- You can substitute ground chicken or turkey for the Italian sausage.
- Garnish with fresh basil if desired.
