Ingredients

- 1 pound spaghetti
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground Italian sausage
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
Instructions
- Cook spaghetti according to package directions. Drain.
- While spaghetti is cooking, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sausage and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Remove sausage with a slotted spoon and set aside.
- Add onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Return sausage to the skillet and stir to combine.
- Add drained spaghetti to the skillet and toss to coat with sauce.
- Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese before serving.
Notes
- For a spicier dish, use hot Italian sausage.
- You can add other vegetables like mushrooms or bell peppers with the onions.
- Garnish with fresh basil if desired.
