A classic Shepherd’s Pie made from scratch with a savory meat filling and creamy mashed potato topping.
Ingredients

- 1 lb ground lamb or beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F.
- Boil potatoes until tender, then mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper.
- Brown meat in a skillet, then add onion, carrots, and garlic. Cook until softened.
- Stir in tomato paste, broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and peas. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Transfer meat mixture to a baking dish. Top with mashed potatoes.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
Notes
- Use ground lamb for authentic Shepherd’s Pie.
- For a crispy top, broil for the last 2-3 minutes.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
