PART 4
The cabin door opened slowly.
Richard Vale walked inside.
Calm.
Confident.
Almost friendly.
“Sarah.”
She immediately hated the sound of her name coming from him.
“You caused a lot of trouble.”
Sarah stepped forward.
“You destroyed my family.”
Vale smiled.
“Your mother destroyed mine first.”
Lila moved closer.
“Don’t listen to him.”
Vale looked at her.
“My daughter.”
The words hit the room like a storm.
Sarah turned toward Lila.
“What?”
Vale continued.
“Did your mother ever tell you the truth?”
Lila’s face became pale.
“You’re lying.”
“Am I?”
Henry stepped forward.
“Enough.”
But Vale ignored him.
“Your mother discovered what I was doing years ago.”
Sarah frowned.
“What were you doing?”
Vale smiled.
“Building an empire.”
“No.”
Henry interrupted.
“Using children.”
Silence filled the cabin.
Sarah looked at Vale with disgust.
“You weren’t protecting Lila.”
“You were protecting yourself.”
For the first time, Vale’s expression changed.
The confidence disappeared.
Outside…
sirens approached.
Vale looked toward the window.
“What did you do?”
Sarah held up Matt’s USB drive.
“My brother made sure the truth would come out.”
Everything he had hidden.
Every illegal record.
Every secret.
Every piece of evidence.
Was already in the hands of investigators.
Richard Vale’s empire collapsed within months.
His name disappeared from charity boards.
His companies were investigated.
And the world finally saw the truth.
Six months later…
Sarah stood beside Lila at their parents’ old house.
The place that once held so many secrets.
Now it held memories.
They found old pictures.
Old letters.
Old pieces of a family that had been broken apart.
But they were rebuilding.
Together.
Sarah kept Matt’s final letter in a wooden frame.
Not as a reminder of the pain.
But as proof of his love.
One evening, Lila asked:
“Do you think he knew we’d find each other?”
Sarah smiled.
“Yes.”
“How?”
“Because Matt always believed family finds its way back.”
Years later, when people asked Sarah what she learned from everything that happened, she always answered:
“Secrets don’t disappear when you bury them.”
“They wait.”
“And sometimes…”
“They wait for someone brave enough to uncover them.”
And Sarah finally understood:
She didn’t lose her brother completely.
Because the person who taught her how to protect family…
was the same person who brought her family back together.
