PART 4 — THE REVENGE SHE NEVER PLANNED
Months passed.
Simone’s career began to explode.
She closed one of the biggest deals of her professional life.
Then another.
She was promoted.
Her salary increased.
She started pottery classes.
Joined a book club.
Went hiking on weekends.
And slowly…
She stopped thinking about Derrick.
Then one afternoon, she met Isaiah at the dog park.
He wasn’t flashy.
He wasn’t trying to impress anyone.
He simply sat beside Sunny while the dog tried to steal his tennis ball.
“You’ve got a determined dog,” he laughed.
Simone smiled.
“He gets that from me.”
Their relationship developed slowly.
No pressure.
No games.
No secrets.
Just respect.
Months later, Derrick’s brother contacted Simone.
“He’s sober now.”
Simone paused.
“That’s good.”
“He’s in therapy too.”
“I hope it helps him.”
“You don’t want to talk to him?”
Simone looked through the window.
“No.”
“Why?”
She smiled softly.
“Because I don’t hate him anymore.”
There was a pause.
“I just don’t want him back.”
That was the moment Simone realized she had truly healed.
Not when Derrick lost the house.
Not when the divorce was finalized.
Not when his affair became known.
But when his name stopped hurting.
One year after the divorce, Simone stood in the backyard of the home she had built with Isaiah.
Sunny ran through the grass.
Isaiah was preparing dinner.
The house was warm.
Peaceful.
Safe.
Her phone buzzed.
A message from Derrick.
I’m sorry. I finally understand what I destroyed.
Simone read it.
Then she deleted it.
Not because she was angry.
Because she no longer needed an explanation.
That night, Isaiah wrapped his arms around her.
“You okay?”
Simone smiled.
“Better than okay.”
She looked around the backyard.
At Sunny.
At the house.
At the man beside her.
And she finally understood something.
Derrick hadn’t destroyed her life.
He had destroyed the version of her that accepted less than she deserved.
She had once believed revenge meant making someone suffer.
Now she knew better.
Real revenge was waking up happy.
Building wealth.
Finding peace.
Choosing better people.
And refusing to return to the place that broke you.
Simone never needed to ruin Derrick.
She simply walked away…
and built a life he could no longer reach.
And sometimes, the best revenge isn’t watching someone fall.
It’s realizing you don’t care whether they do.
