Joseph speaks on Yasmin's death anniversary after eight years of silence

PART 4

The words hung in the air like a storm about to break.

“Your husband knows who did it.”

Clara couldn’t move.

She looked at Mike, waiting for him to deny it.

Waiting for him to laugh and say it was impossible.

But he didn’t.

And that silence hurt more than any confession.

“Mike…” Clara whispered, her voice shaking. “What is he talking about?”

Mike closed his eyes.

For a moment, he looked like a man who had been carrying a heavy secret for too long.

“I didn’t want you to know.”

Clara stepped back.

“You didn’t want me to know that our daughter was murdered?”

The room filled with gasps.

Danny stood frozen, watching his father.

“Tell them,” Robert said quietly.

Mike looked at him with anger.

“You don’t understand.”

“No,” Robert replied. “I understand everything. I was there.”

Clara turned toward Robert.

“Then tell me what happened.”

Robert took a deep breath.

“That day at the river wasn’t supposed to end with Chloe dying.”

Everyone listened.

“Mike had discovered something about a man who worked near the river. Someone dangerous.”

Mike looked down.

Clara’s eyes widened.

“What does that have to do with Chloe?”

Robert continued.

“Mike wanted to confront him. But things got out of control.”

Danny’s face became pale.

“You knew?”

Mike looked at his son.

“I tried to stop it.”

Danny shook his head.

“You told me nothing.”

“I was trying to protect you!”

“No!” Danny shouted.

The whole room went silent.

It was the first time Clara had heard her son raise his voice since Chloe died.

“You protected yourself.”

Mike looked broken.

Danny wiped his tears.

“I saw Chloe arguing with someone.”

Clara covered her mouth.

“You never told me that.”

Danny looked at her.

“I was scared.”

His voice cracked.

“Dad told me nobody would believe me.”

Mike immediately shook his head.

“I thought you were confused. You were just a child.”

“But I remembered.”

The truth finally began coming out.

Clara looked at her husband, feeling like she didn’t recognize him anymore.

“Who was it, Mike?”

Mike stayed silent.

Robert answered.

“It was someone close.”

A terrifying feeling filled the room.

Clara looked around.

Someone close?

Someone they trusted?

Then Mike whispered a name.

A name nobody expected.

“David.”

Everyone froze.

Clara’s eyes widened.

“Your brother?”

Mike nodded slowly.

David was Clara’s older brother.

The man who had stood beside them after Chloe’s death.

The man who brought flowers every anniversary.

The man who always said he wished he could have saved her.

“No…” Clara whispered.

Mike’s voice trembled.

“He wasn’t supposed to hurt her.”

Danny looked confused.

“What do you mean?”

Mike swallowed.

“That day, David came to the river because he wanted something from me.”

“What?”

“A secret.”

The room became colder.

Mike continued.

“Your uncle had made dangerous choices. He was afraid I would expose him.”

Clara felt tears running down her face.

“So Chloe saw something?”

Mike nodded.

“She saw David pushing me during the argument. She ran toward us. David panicked.”

Danny closed his eyes.

The memory was coming back.

“He pushed her…”

Nobody spoke.

The truth was finally there.

Eight years of silence.

Eight years of pain.

But then…

A sound came from outside.

A car door closing.

Everyone turned toward the window.

Robert’s face changed.

“He’s here.”

Clara looked at him.

“Who?”

Robert didn’t answer.

Then the front door handle started moving.

Someone was trying to open it.

Mike stepped in front of his family.

For the first time in years, Clara saw fear in his eyes.

Not guilt.

Fear.

The door slowly opened.

And standing there…

Was David.

He looked at everyone inside the house.

His eyes stopped on Danny.

A small smile appeared on his face.

“So…”

He said quietly.

“You finally remembered.”

Danny grabbed Clara’s hand.

And Clara realized the nightmare was not over.

The truth had only opened the door to something much darker.

Because now the person responsible for Chloe’s death was standing in front of them.

And he had no intention of letting them reveal everything.

TO BE CONTINUED…

PART 5

The room felt smaller than ever.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

David stood at the entrance, calm and confident, as if he wasn’t standing in front of the family whose lives he had destroyed.

Clara stared at him.

The same man who had hugged her after Chloe’s funeral.

The same man who had told her, “I wish I could have saved her.”

The lies suddenly became unbearable.

“How could you?” Clara whispered.

David tilted his head.

“How could I what?”

“Stand beside me all these years… pretending you cared.”

For the first time, David’s smile disappeared.

“You don’t know what happened.”

Mike stepped forward.

“Don’t listen to him, Clara.”

David laughed quietly.

“After all this time, you still want to play the hero?”

Danny looked between them.

“Tell me the truth.”

His voice was stronger now.

“I deserve to know.”

David looked at him for a long moment.

Then he sighed.

“Your father always had a problem with the truth.”

Mike’s fists tightened.

“Enough.”

But David continued.

“Your father found out about my mistakes. He wanted to expose me.”

Clara looked at Mike.

“Is that true?”

Mike nodded slowly.

“I found evidence that David was stealing money from people in town.”

David’s expression hardened.

“And he threatened to destroy my life.”

Danny remembered something.

A small moment from that day.

A voice.

An argument.

A scream.

“I remember…”

Everyone turned toward him.

Danny closed his eyes.

“I remember Chloe crying.”

His hands started shaking.

“She told me to run.”

Clara felt tears falling.

“What happened next?”

Danny looked at David.

“She pushed me away.”

David’s face changed.

Just for a second.

Fear.

Danny saw it.

“You did it.”

The words were quiet.

But they hit harder than a scream.

“You pushed her.”

David stepped forward.

“Careful, boy.”

Mike immediately moved between them.

“Don’t touch my son.”

The tension exploded.

Then suddenly…

A loud noise came from outside.

Everyone froze.

A police siren.

David’s eyes widened.

“What did you do?”

Robert looked at him.

“I recorded everything.”

David’s face went pale.

“The police have been listening since I arrived.”

Clara finally understood.

Robert hadn’t come to create chaos.

He had come prepared.

David slowly backed away.

But before he could leave, officers entered the house.

“David Carter, you are under arrest.”

For years, Clara imagined the moment she would discover the truth.

She thought answers would bring peace.

But standing there, watching the man who took Chloe away, she realized something.

The truth didn’t erase the pain.

It only allowed them to finally stop running from it.
